The percolator is a somewhat simplified version of the moka pot and was once widely used. The coffee is placed in a filter attached to the top of the percolator and the electric element heats the water to boiling temperature. The water in the filter then circulates inside the coffee a few times before the system automatically shuts itself off. After the coffee is brewed, it is kept warm.
